How should I clean natural bird toys and perches?
Check toys daily for droppings or food spills. Remove soiled toys and wash with hot water and dish soap. A vegetable brush does a great job getting into nooks. Do not soak natural toy pieces in water for prolonged periods, as they may absorb water that can lead to mold. We do not suggest cleaning with vinegar as some birds can have respiratory irritation with vinegar. After washing, dry the toy with a paper towel or absorbent towel to remove as much moisture as possible before allowing to dry the rest of the way. Please implement any disinfecting measures at your discretion and always consult with your avian veterinarian for the best practices for your flock.
Should I disinfect these toys before I give them to my bird?
Our toys and toy components are sourced, assembled, and stored in a bird-free facility. All of wood for toys and perches is sourced from the USA and Canada, and is kiln dried to prevent mold, bacteria, and pests. Many of our other natural toy pieces are imported. They go through standard USDA-required import processes to protect our pets and homes. We keep a close eye on our supply chain from start to finish.
The vast majority of our customers are comfortable with these sterilization precautions, and do not implement any further disinfecting methods. However, we all have different comfort levels and our birds have different sensitivities, so if you wish to do more, we suggest washing with hot water and dish soap. Can you make custom natural parrot toys?
Yes! We can customize existing toys we make, or create something completely new JUST for your bird! Custom toys usually require a little extra time since they are made-to-order. Email us if you want a shipping time estimate.
Can I add to my order after it was submitted? I don’t want to buy $60 more toys to get free shipping again!
Yes! Email us if you want to add to your order and we will provide you with a free shipping code so you can add the 1 or 2 toys without incurring shipping fees for add-on orders. In most cases, add-on orders will ship with your original order.
Your packaging looks so fun that my bird wants to shred it. Is it safe?
Yes! Our packing includes all-natural aspen shavings, and a sprinkling of the parrotJOY signature tri-color crinkle paper. We encourage you to use this packaging to refill your toys. So, go get your shred on, little bird!
Can you sell me just the natural bird toy pieces?
Sometimes. However, we don’t want to rip you off! We are not a large enough company to import in bulk to offer competitive prices for many toy pieces. Our specialty is taking all-natural toy pieces and creating one-of-a-kind toys that your bird will obsess over. We offer natural bird toy parts for sale only when it makes sense for you, our customer.
Are your all natural bird toys made in the USA?
Currently, all of our toys are made in the USA, with many of our natural toy pieces being sourced from great communities and artisans around the world. parrotJOY supports sustainable economic opportunities in developing countries worldwide. Around the world, communities near wild parrot populations struggle to earn a reliable income, pushing some individuals into the lucrative exotic animal trade. Purchasing products from these regions can provide a reliable, legal income source and help protect wild parrot populations. parrotJOY supports the One Health initiative, which recognizes the global interconnection between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment.
